Benefits Account Manager
I didn’t choose a life in benefits – it chose me!
I started my career in benefits/insurance in 2005 processing Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) claims at an up-and-coming third party administrator company outside of Nashville, TN. Prior to this I had spent my working days in child care, so this was quite a change! However, this was a great stepping stone in teaching me some basic levels of how insurance works. After a couple of years I decided to branch out and learn about life insurance for a well known nation-wide company. While a bit different than processing reimbursement claims, it was great experience in learning different risk factors insuring companies look at before accepting new business.
From there I was offered a position at a local brokerage administering COBRA to qualified participants from medium to large groups. I spent numerous years at this position learning the Federal COBRA laws on who is qualified, processing premium payments, ARRA laws, maintaining eligibility, and issuing required letters and notices. Becoming COBRA Certified was a highlight of my career.
In 2014, I was recruited by XMI and I haven’t looked back since – well worth the Interstate 24 commute! During my time here at XMI, I have been exposed to the full spectrum of plan administration in the small to large-sized group market. While I started out handling the eligibility for all of XMI’s benefit clients, in 2016 my role changed to a benefits account manager. Currently I shop groups with multiple insurance carriers, build benefit plans, create proposals, prepare enrollment materials, conduct enrollment meetings, as well as administer the ongoing day to day needs that my groups and their employees encounter.
My personal life and professional life often collide as a mother of two special needs children. As a consumer, I know the personal struggles one can face working with insurance companies, doctor offices, hospitals, and pharmacies. For this very reason, I do take my job very seriously and want to always be as helpful as I can sharing my knowledge I have learned along the way or offering a listening ear.
When I am not at work you can find me and my boys in and around Nashville. We are true native Nashvillians and very proud of our growing city. My oldest is an aspiring engineer and my youngest is an ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network. We attend many fundraisers for our local children’s hospital sharing his journey.
